Cricket World Ratings 13th June 2026

New Zealand's first game on their current tour of England proved a tense, low scoring game, in which the home side eventually proved victorious. Subsequently, their great batsman Kane Williamson has retired.  Meanwhile, in one the the least surprising results ever, India won at home against Afghanistan, and by a predictably huge margin. In my rankings, England now move above their immediate rivals; and also India, who gained a princely one point gain from their win. Afghanistan, rounded to the nearest point, actually show no change at all!

  1. Australia     282
  2. South Africa  262
  3. England       166 +17
  4. India         157  +1
  5. New Zealand   137 -16
  6. Sri Lanka      42
  7. Pakistan      -19
  8. West Indies   -46
  9. Bangladesh    -49
  10. Ireland      -292
  11. Zimbabwe     -315
  12. Afghanistan  -324

The 2nd test in England starts next week.

Cricket World Ratings 29th May 2026

New Zealand's first game on their current tour of Europe was in Ireland (well, Northern Ireland to be precise), where they recoded an easy win. The effect on my world ratings is as follows:

  1. Australia     282
  2. South Africa  262
  3. India         156
  4. New Zealand   153  +3
  5. England       149
  6. Sri Lanka      42
  7. Pakistan      -19
  8. West Indies   -46
  9. Bangladesh    -49
  10. Ireland      -292  -3
  11. Zimbabwe     -315
  12. Afghanistan  -324

And in the official ratings:

  1. Australia     131
  2. South Africa  119
  3. India         104
  4. England       102
  5. New Zealand   102  +1
  6. Sri Lanka      86
  7. Bangladesh     78
  8. Pakistan       75
  9. West Indies    68
  10. Zimbabwe       10

Next, New Zealand head to England, and the interesting thing is quite how closely the two teams are rated in both systems.  England will have home advantage, of course, but it could be a tight series.

Cricket World Ratings 21th May 2026

Bangladesh have just beaten Pakistan for the fourth successive game.  That's an amazing run, and in my rankings, they've never had a higher score are just one good win away from gaining places:
  1. Australia     282
  2. South Africa  262
  3. India         156
  4. New Zealand   150
  5. England       149
  6. Sri Lanka      42
  7. Pakistan      -19 -21
  8. West Indies   -46
  9. Bangladesh    -49 +21
  10. Ireland      -289
  11. Zimbabwe     -315
  12. Afghanistan  -324

In the official rankings, the leap has already been made:

  1. Australia     131  +3
  2. South Africa  119  +3
  3. India         104  +2
  4. England       102  -2
  5. New Zealand   101  +3
  6. Sri Lanka      86  -2
  7. Bangladesh     78 +15
  8. Pakistan       75  -7
  9. West Indies    68  -1
  10. Zimbabwe       10  -2

The official rankings have also just excluded Ireland and Afghanistan, for playing insufficient tests, and at the same time all other scores have been updated. Ireland do have a test forthcoming, however, as they will play New Zealand next weak, prior to their visitors going on to tour England.

After a gap of four months, test cricket has resumed, with Pakistan travelling to, and losing to, Bangladesh, who have now won three in a row against this particular opponent. The effect on my world ratings is as follows:

  1. Australia     282
  2. South Africa  262
  3. India         156
  4. New Zealand   150
  5. England       149
  6. Sri Lanka      42
  7. Pakistan        2 -26
  8. West Indies   -46
  9. Bangladesh    -70 +26
  10. Ireland      -289

Cricket World Ratings 8th January 2026

The Ashes are over, and Australia have triumphed 4-1 at home.  In 35 years following cricket, I have witnessed England win down under just twice; and this time, it wasn't close.  My world ratings now look like this:

  1. Australia     282  +9
  2. South Africa  262
  3. India         156
  4. New Zealand   150
  5. England       149  -9
  6. Sri Lanka      42
  7. Pakistan       28
  8. West Indies   -46
  9. Bangladesh    -96
  10. Ireland      -289
  11. Zimbabwe     -315
  12. Afghanistan  -324

The official rankings look similar, although they are a little kinder to England:

  1. Australia     128  +4
  2. South Africa  116
  3. England       109  -3
  4. India         104
  5. New Zealand    98
  6. Sri Lanka      88
  7. Pakistan       82
  8. West Indies    69
  9. Bangladesh     63
  10. Ireland        23
  11. Zimbabwe       12
  12. Afghanistan    10

And with that, there's a several month break, with no new cricket due until New Zealand and Pakistan tour England in the summer.
